When Theodore Roosevelt said, “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty…” I’m very confident it wasn’t his reply to being asked, “Do you know how to lose weight fast and easy?” But what makes this quote so powerful is that you can apply this to any aspect of your life, even your fitness journey.

Your health is at the centre of your life and fundamental to your wellbeing. Every part of your life relies on you having good health. If you don’t want to believe it, think of any task you do in your life currently, whether it’s bringing in the shopping, working, picking the kids up from school, even cooking. Now imagine doing the same task and being 20% healthier, mentally or physically, you’d perform the task so much better and easier.

At one stage in our lives we have dreamt of being a superhero, so what’s the one thing all superheroes have in common; they are the vision of a healthy physique. Now I’m not saying you have to look like a mythical god or get bitten by a radioactive spider to be the best version of yourself, however, you damn sure should want to move around easily and be fitter, as it brings so many health benefits with it. Reducing the risk of obesity and many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes, as well as improving mental health.

So we all want to know how to lose weight fast and easy and be the superhero you have always wanted to be. The answer is you need to be prepared to WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK. It all starts with your mindset; the fact you are reading this I have to assume you have made the decision to change, so that is the first step.

I would never promote any fast body transformations as this would mean taking some sort of illegal or unhealthy supplement to aid such a radical change. I shudder when I see words like “fast”, “extreme”, “easy” because even if you accomplish your goal, 90% of the time it will come with a rebound. The aim is to not just lose weight but to then maintain it.

How to lose weight fast and easy will always be asked especially the closer it gets to summer. The key to weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume. Weight loss tends to be promoted more as an exercise in cutting calories than by increasing exercise. But you should think about burning more calories through increased exercise too.

Doing both (cutting calories through diet and burning calories through exercise) will be more effective. Do not simply crash diet or start restricting yourself to a limited amount of calories a day. 

Most people tend to lower their calorie intake (food consumption) and think that’s enough. But being in a calorie deficit along with the implementation of some form of daily exercise is your recipe for effective weight loss. Studies show that people who lose weight and keep it off over the long term get regular physical activity.

The most effective way I lost weight (I went from 90kg/198lbs – 17% body fat to 78kg/171lbs – 8% body fat) in 12 weeks was by incorporating two things into my daily routine. 

Intermittent Fasting (IF) – One of the world’s most popular health and fitness trends, used to lose weight, improve health and simplify lifestyles.

Weight loss and weight management are the most common reasons for people to try IF. By eating fewer meals, intermittent fasting can lead to an automatic reduction in calorie intake. Additionally, intermittent fasting changes hormone levels to facilitate weight loss.

I stop eating at 9pm and won’t eat again until 1pm the next day. It’s not for everyone though, so try it for a week and see how you feel. After a few days you’ll quickly get used to not having breakfast.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) – A form of anaerobic training arranged as short bursts of very hard work.

The whole point of high-intensity interval training is to raise your heart rate using an exercise of your choice combining it with periods of rest or lower-intensity exercise. In order to qualify as true HIIT, you need to push yourself to the max during every set.

The reason HIIT is so effective is that it turns your body into a fat-burning machine. You can use any of our premium cardio machines in store for your HIIT sessions.

During HIIT your body produces excess post-oxygen consumption, as a result, raising your resting metabolic rate for twenty-four hours or more after your training session. You burn fat calories throughout the day.

(Bonus) DRINK WATER – Honestly hydration is key! Aim to drink two to three litres a day It’s a great hack for your diet too because the majority of the time you will find you’re not actually hungry, you’re just dehydrated. Granted drinking water isn’t super exciting, so jazz up plain water with lemon or cucumber or any of your favourite fruits. These foods are much lower in calories and I really don’t need to go into the benefits of eating vegetables.

Conclusion – Losing weight quickly and effectively can be achieved by setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Timely) goals. Once you have set your goals, incorporate IF Intermittent Fasting & HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and you will reach them in a more timely fashion. Yes, it will push you out of your comfort zone. Yes, it will be painful and difficult, but that pain you go through will never be forgotten and will be the constant motivation for a healthier lifestyle. 

This has worked for me over the years and as a result, I know exactly what exercises my body reacts to the best. I would advise designing a plan using these two elements over a period of time. When wanting to lose weight fast, think long-lasting results. A body transformation process should consist of qualities you are willing to keep up forever. I live and breathe by HIIT and IF but I also accept they aren’t for everybody, but I can guarantee once you see the physical changes over a short period of time, it will make it easier for you to continue.
